FAQ
The Ultimate Alligator Chopper FAQ
Section 1: Basics & How It Works
What is the Alligator Chopper?
The Alligator Chopper is a Swedish-invented manual vegetable cutter designed to dice or slice food into uniform cubes or sticks with one single downward press. It is engineered for professional speed and precision, requiring zero knife skills to achieve restaurant-quality results.
How does the "Alligator" mechanism work?
Our patented "leverage" design uses a grid of razor-sharp stainless steel blades and a matching base. When you press the handle down, the food is pushed through the grid and into a collector box, instantly dicing the ingredient.
Is it easy for beginners or seniors to use?
Very. The Alligator is designed to multiply your hand strength. It is safer than a knife and reduces hand fatigue, making it an excellent choice for children learning to cook, seniors with arthritis, or anyone who wants to avoid the stress of traditional dicing.
Section 2: Food & Performance
What foods can I chop with an Alligator?
It is highly versatile. It works perfectly for onions, garlic, peppers, cucumbers, carrots, potatoes, shallots, olives, radishes, and firm fruits like apples or pears.
Do I need to pre-cut vegetables first?
For larger vegetables like onions and potatoes, a quick cut into halves or quarters is recommended to fit the cutting area (approx. 80x80 mm). Smaller items like garlic cloves, chili peppers, or shallots can be placed directly onto the grid.
Can I make French fries with it?
Yes. By using the 12x12 mm (1/2") grid, you can create uniform potato sticks perfect for the air fryer or deep fryer in seconds.
Does it really stop onion tears?
Yes. Most "onion tears" are caused by vapors released during slow chopping. Since the Alligator dices an entire onion in under a second and stores the pieces in a closed collector box, those vapors are contained, significantly reducing eye irritation.
Section 3: Models & Materials
What is the difference between the Plastic and Stainless Steel models?
- Plastic Models: Made from reinforced, BPA-free Tritan and ABS plastic. They are lightweight, durable, and perfect for everyday home use.
- Stainless Steel (3094) Model: Our "Professional Edition." It is crafted from heavy-duty 304 stainless steel. It is heavier, more stable, and designed for the high-volume demands of professional kitchens and "prosumers" who want a tool that lasts a lifetime.
What are the blades made of?
This is the Alligator secret. We use South Korean cold-rolled 301 stainless steel. This premium steel stays sharper longer and offers a cleaner cut than the cheaper "stamped" steel used in knock-off products.
What grid sizes are available?
- 3x3 mm (1/8"): Ideal for mincing garlic, chili, ginger, and shallots.
- 6x6 mm (1/4"): The standard size for everyday dicing (onions, cucumbers, peppers).
- 12x12 mm (1/2"): Perfect for salads, stews, and French fries.
Section 4: Cleaning & Durability
Is the Alligator Chopper dishwasher safe?
Yes, most components are dishwasher safe. However, to maintain the razor-sharp edge of the 301-steel blades for as long as possible, we recommend a quick rinse under running water immediately after use.
How do I clean the "teeth" of the base?
Every Alligator comes with a specialized Cleaning Grid. This smart insert sits between the teeth; after chopping, you simply lift the grid to "pop" out any trapped food scraps instantly.
Can I buy replacement parts?
Absolutely. Unlike "disposable" kitchen gadgets, Alligator is built for sustainability. We stock genuine replacement grids, collector boxes, and bases. If a part wears out after 10 years of use, you can replace just that piece rather than the whole unit.
Section 5: Brand & Quality
What makes Alligator better than cheaper "copycat" choppers?
Two main things: Steel Quality and Durability. Cheaper versions use soft steel that crushes food and flimsy plastic that cracks under pressure. An Alligator is a "Buy It For Life" investment in Swedish engineering that won't end up in a landfill after six months.
Where is the Alligator Chopper designed?
Alligator is a Swedish brand with over 20 years of history. We invented the category and hold the original patents. To date, we have over 5 million happy customers worldwide.
Section 6: Shipping & Logistics
Do you ship worldwide?
Yes. We ship directly from our warehouse in Sweden to kitchens across the globe using FedEx. Most orders arrive within a few business days.
Will I have to pay import duties?
- EU Customers: Shipping is fully duty-free.
- Non-EU (USA, UK, etc.): Local customs duties or import fees may apply. These are determined by your local government (e.g., recent U.S. "De Minimis" changes) and are outside of our control.
What is the return policy/warranty?
We offer a 2-year manufacturer’s warranty on all products. If you experience a defect in materials or workmanship, we will make it right.
